WA needs a 10c Recycling Refund Scheme for cans and bottles!

I am appalled that WA has the worst record for recycling & litter in Australia.

I don’t think it’s acceptable that over 80% of our cans and bottles end up in the rubbish dump.

Did you know that in South Australia, four times as many drink containers are recycled compared with WA, thanks to a simple 10cent Recycling Refund Scheme?

If Western Australia also introduced a Recycling Refund Scheme, these valuable resources could be turned into money while at the same time reducing greenhouse production.

Despite what the beverage industry claims, a recycling refund will not dramatically increase the price of drinks – soft drinks and beer are sold at the same prices in South Australia,

In fact, introducing a Recycling Refund Scheme in WA would create new sustainable jobs and attract millions of dollars in new investment in recycling industries.

I think putting a deposit on bottles, cans, jars and tins is a great way to reduce litter, reduce greenhouse pollution, and create jobs in WA.

A Recycling Refund Scheme would also allow sporting clubs, schools and community groups to raise money by helping the environment.

Please let me know if I can count on your support to fix Western Australia’s embarrassing recycling record by introducing a Recycling Refund Scheme in WA.
